Are You Hiding From Revision?

Procrastination happens to all of us and it can become worse when we have work we NEED to do, but the deadline isn’t immediate. With a few weeks to go before exams, it’s important that you create a steady rhythm of revision so you are fully prepared.

With a few weeks to go before ACA and ACCA exams, it can be difficult to maintain motivation and study consistency. Here are a few things we recommend:

  • Break down revision into smaller chunks: rather than having a 3 hour study session, do 30 minutes, then break, then 1 hour, then break etc. Can you do 30 minutes over lunchtime? Try to find time to do revision little and often.

  • Keep sight of the end goal: Sometimes when we are in the depths of revision we can lose sight of why we are studying in the first place. Don’t forget to remind yourself that this qualification will be with you for life, accelerate your career, give you great skills and enhance your earning capability.

  • Schedule breaks in your revision plan: Once you meet certain milestones in your revision plan, treat yourself to time with friends, a meal out with a loved one or something else you enjoy. Not only will scheduling these rewards keep you motivated but breaks are important for keeping perspective and reducing stress and anxiety.

  • Communicate: Ensure you are communicating that you need to revise to colleagues at work, flatmates, partners and friends. If they aren’t aware then they will not give you the space you need to revise in a committed way. Tell your team at work that you have exams coming up and try to leave work on time. Exams are more important than work at this point and if you are struggling with your workload, speak to your project manager and/or people manager.
