A few little reminders if you’re studying for accountancy exams at the moment…

This is your reminder to grab a glass of water…

When you are in the midst of revision, it can be difficult to stop and remember the small things which will benefit our minds and our bodies - and ultimately improve our exam performance through increased motivation to study and more productive studying.

Drink some water

Staying hydrated:

  • Improves cognitive function (the brain is 75% water!)

  • Helps maintain your energy levels, so you can study for longer periods without feeling drained

  • Helps maintain a positive mood and better manage stress

  • Aids in the transport of nutrients and oxygen to the brain, which is essential for memory retention and recall

Step outside

Spending time outside:

  • Reduces mental fatigue, refreshes your mind, and improves your ability to focus

  • Helps regulate your circadian rhythm, which can improve your sleep patterns

  • Increases blood flow, delivering more oxygen to your brain, which can improve cognitive performance and reduce stress

  • Breaks the monotony of studying in the same place for hour, enhancing creativity, problem-solving skills, and overall focus

Reward yourself for reaching study goals

Rewards serve as positive reinforcement, making you more motivated to continue studying:

  • Intensive studying without breaks or rewards can lead to burnout

  • Knowing that a reward is coming can help you stay focused and work more efficiently

  • Rewards contribute to your overall well-being by boosting your mood and reducing stress

  • Celebrating small victories reinforces your efforts and reminds you that you’re making headway, which can build confidence and keep you on track

Eat some nutritious food

The brain requires a steady supply of nutrients to function optimally:

  • Foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats can improve memory, concentration, and problem-solving abilities

  • Nutritious foods provide a balanced and sustained release of energy, which is essential for long study sessions

  • Leafy greens, nuts, and berries are known to support mental well-being and reduce anxiety

  • Eating a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants strengthens your immune system, reducing the likelihood of falling ill when you need to be at your best!
