How to Cope While You Wait for Exam Results
Waiting for professional exam results can be one of the most stressful parts of your accountancy journey. Whether you’re waiting for your ACA, ACCA or CTA results, it’s completely normal to feel anxious, overthink your answers or worry about what happens next.
When you’ve put so much time and effort into studying alongside work, the uncertainty can feel overwhelming. So, how can you look after yourself while you wait?
1. Focus on what you can control
The exam is over, and there’s nothing more you can do to change your answers now. Instead of replaying every question in your head, try to bring your attention back to what you can control today — whether that’s getting enough sleep, spending time with friends or enjoying a well-earned break.
2. Set boundaries with exam talk
Discussing the exam with colleagues or friends can sometimes help, but constantly comparing answers and speculating about pass marks can fuel anxiety. It’s okay to step away from conversations that leave you feeling worse.
3. Challenge your worst-case scenarios
An anxious mind can quickly jump to the worst possible outcome. If you catch yourself thinking, “What if I’ve failed?”, remind yourself that worrying about an outcome doesn’t make it more likely to happen. Whatever the result, you can take things one step at a time.
4. Remember that one result doesn't define you
Your exam results are not a measure of your intelligence, potential or worth. If you pass, celebrate your achievement! If you don’t get the result you hoped for, it’s okay to feel disappointed — but there are options, support and opportunities to try again.
Be kind to yourself while you wait. You’ve already put in the work, and you deserve a little breathing space.
