Our Top Tips for Studying for Exams over the Christmas Period

Studying over the festive period won’t be easy but planning, setting boundaries and focussing on your goals with make it a whole lot easier.

Studying over the Christmas period is challenging. How to you balance studying with having a rest and spending time with family/friends? How can you focus? How can you ensure you have support if you need it?

Here are our top tips for studying over the festive season:

Create a study schedule and block out time for family/friends

Make sure you are setting time aside to relax as well as study

If you have exams in January, accept that the Christmas period will be short this year

You will need to make some sacrifices, as sad as that is!

Set boundaries with family so that they understand that you need to study

If you don’t communicate clearly, it will be so much more difficult to tear yourself away to study

Ensure you have a quiet dedicated study space

Maybe an area of your bedroom or a separate study if possible. It will help you to separate study and leisure, and enable you to concentrate.

Focus on your goals

Why are you studying? Don’t forget your long-term career ambitions which mean this short-term pain will be so so worth it!

If you find you are struggling, mentally or with technical content, reach out for support

There is Caba (ICAEW trainees), Accountancy Hub of course, SHOUT (a 24 hour service: text on 85258) and don’t forget your employer’s EAP (for counselling and other support services).

Wishing you the best of luck in your exams in 2025!
