Nervous About Your Exam Results? Try Our 5 Top Tips to Reduce Anxiety…
It’s okay to be nervous, but you don’t have to face it alone. Whatever happens, you have options, support, and a future full of possibilities.
As exam results day approaches, it's completely normal to feel anxious. The uncertainty can feel overwhelming. But remember—you’re not alone, and there are ways to manage the stress. Here are some top tips to help ease your mind in the lead-up to results day:
1. Keep Things in Perspective
Results are important, but they don’t define your worth or future. Whatever the outcome, there are always options and paths forward. Remind yourself that one set of results won’t make or break you or your career ambitions. You will keep moving forward no matter what!
2. Stay Busy
The more you sit and worry, the more your anxiety can spiral. Try to keep your mind occupied with activities you enjoy—hang out with friends, go for walks, read, or play sports. Distraction can be a powerful tool.
3. Talk About It
Bottling things up often makes anxiety worse. Talk to someone you trust about how you’re feeling—whether it’s a friend, parent, flatmate, or even a counsellor. Just saying it out loud can bring relief.
4. Plan for the Day
Have a plan in place for results day. Whether you’re checking online or going to work, know what to expect. Also, consider having support around you—someone who can help you talk through the results, whatever they may be.
5. Practice Self-Compassion
Be kind to yourself. You've already done your part by showing up, working hard and taking the exam/s. Try not to replay what-ifs or worst-case scenarios. Instead, speak to yourself the way you would to a friend going through the same thing.
